More than
ever, today’s teens and young adults struggle to find their
way in an increasingly complex and uncertain world.
Sadly,
many of these young people have not developed the fundamental tools
necessary to meet the challenges. Increasingly, they experience
difficulties in school, wrestle with peer and family relationships
or become involved in criminal or destructive behaviours (THEY BECOME
LOST IN CIVILIZATION).
Friends
and family find themselves faced with a loved one who is angry,
withdrawn, and unmotivated by life itself….an individual who
has no identity, who lives with frustration and a loss of connection
to the world around them. Without intervention, he/she moves steadily
towards a state of crisis (with the typical result to panic…..fight
or flight).
Project
LOST is a wilderness therapy program component aimed to meet the
needs of young people at risk before they arrive
at crisis, and/or in the early stages before serious
consequences (involving the judicial system). Project LOST recognizes
that these young people are frequently coping with a deficit sense
of self-respect and esteem….
and that wilderness adventure challenge therapy has proven qualities
towards the regeneration and re-juicing of these deficits.
Through
challenge and achievement in pristine, remote wild settings, Project
LOST seeks to restore the young person’s sense of self-worth.
By helping our clients re-discover a strong, positive sense of self,
and by providing positive role models and mentors, we can nurture
several key strategies for life-long survival and success.
The
program actively promotes effective decision-making, self-discipline
and reliance, team-building and leadership, communication and empathy,
along with environment ethics and healthy physically-active lifestyles.
