Overview
All students enrolled in
WSC Programs at any educational location automatically accumulate
credits towards a WSC Outdoor Education Certificate. The Certificate
may be requested by the student when the respective number of credits
is successfully accomplished.
Credits for Programs may
be taken at different locations if such is more convenient for the
student.
PLEASE NOTE : Attendance
in the field trips is mandatory in order for a Program to be counted
as a credit towards a Certificate.
Outdoor Education Certificate
This Certificate may be
obtained upon completion of 5 Programs which must include 3 core Programs
and any 2 electives.
Core Programs: Candidates must complete Wilderness Survival, Map &
Compass Skills, and one other Core Program (see list below).
Additional Programs from the Core list may be used as the 2 electives.
These requirements can normally be met within 2 years, part-time.
Outdoor Education -
Advanced Certificate
This Certificate may be
obtained upon completion of 10 Programs which must include any 6 of
the 7 Core Programs, and any 4 Electives.
The seventh Program from the Core list may be used as an elective.
These requirements can normally be met within 3-4 years, part-time
Search and Rescue Certificate
This Certificate is offered
only to volunteer and professional staffs on a request basis.
Requirements: Wilderness Survival, Map & Compass Skills, Advanced
Navigation, Wilderness First-Aid Essentials (Save
a Life), and Basics of Search and Rescue (tba).
