Overview:

Learn to plan and carry out a backpacking trip into the remote wilderness.  Students will examine the choice of sites available to backpackers, e.g., National and Provincial Parks, Crown Lands, Provinical/National/State/Club Trail Systems etc.

Purpose:

To acquire lightweight camping and backpacking skills.

Topics:

  • trip planning and logistics
  • camping gear selection
  • proper footwear and clothing considerations
  • menus and water supply, and,
  • sample trip routes. 

Duration:

  • 4 or 5 evening sessions, plus,
  • one weekend outing.

Misc:

The objective of the course is to oversee the group through the implementation of a wilderness backpacking trip.
