Overview:

This introduction to survival skills and preparedness is a must for anyone, such as hikers, canoeists, hunters, fisher persons and outdoor leads/camp staffs, who ventures into the great outdoors.

Purpose:

To learn basic survival skills.

Topics:

  • Trip planning and notification
  • Survival and safety kits
  • Proper gear/clothing/footwear
  • Map and compass basics
  • The "what if?" priority survival skills (shelter construction, fire building with/without matches).

Duration:

  • Seminars (5 three-hour evening sessions or 2 Saturday eight-hour sessions)
  • Weekend overnight simulation

Misc:

Course manual available at first session, $ 19.95.
The use of extensive case studies and search and rescue stats/info will prepare students for preventative measures "game plan".
